The word “icon” is thrown around a lot nowadays, but what does it actually take to earn icon status? A quick run through our culture’s most beloved fashion icons reveals very little – from Coco Chanel to Miuccia Prada, Giorgio Armani to Calvin Klein, they all come from different countries, different time periods, and have entirely different aesthetics. What unites them is that they do things differently, paving their own way with a style that is entirely their own.
For Spring Summer '26, we’re channelling this icon energy. With a focus on bold silhouettes, vibrant colours, and head-turning accessories, it’s the perfect season to go big and embrace everything that makes you original and unique. Primary colours are a key look of the new season, speaking to a mood of bright optimism. We saw pops of apple green and Yves Klein Blue at Loewe, soft feminine lilacs at Chloé (available at David Jones) and sunny yellows at Zimmermann. Bubble-hemmed puff skirts are having an unexpected moment, spotted at Dior, Gucci and Prada. Matthieu Blazy’s headline-making Chanel SS26 collection had us all falling back in love with fringing, which also popped up at Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Bottega Veneta.
Historically, the word “icon” referred to a sacred image, but sometime in the early twentieth century we started to use the phrase “iconic” to reference people, places, and things that defined their era. In that sense, being “iconic” is one of the most modern acts a person can engage in. And you don’t have to sit front row at a fashion show à la Madonna to carry icon energy – it’s about carrying yourself with confidence and ease, celebrating everything that makes you original. Jean-Paul Gaultier said that “you don’t become an icon by trying to be one, you become one by being yourself.” Which is to say, this season is less about reinvention, and more about revealing the inner icon that has been lying in wait all along. Consider this your official invitation. Chadstone, after all, is more than just a destination – it’s an icon too.
