Through the Looking Glass

As part of Light to Night, Chadstone continues its commitment to supporting Australian creative talent with the commission of Through the Looking Glass – a large‑scale, immersive light sculpture by artist Dean Norton in collaboration with Studio John Fish.

Presented as a centrepiece within the luxury mall, the artwork transforms light, space and perception through mind‑bending dichroic glass and meticulously layered reflective surfaces. The result is a captivating play of infinite reflections that invites pause and contemplation.

Light becomes an active participant in this work. It refracts, reveals, and obscures, while also creating a subtle sense of infinity, extending space beyond its physical limits and inviting a feeling of continuous depth.  The sculpture responds dynamically to its environment, interacting with Chadstone’s iconic gridshell roof as light shifts from day to night.

Amid the energy of the destination, Through the Looking Glass offers a moment of calm – encouraging visitors to slow down, look closer and experience Light to Night from a new perspective.

This striking installation by Dean Norton and Studio John Fish is a powerful expression of Chadstone’s dedication to contemporary Australian art and creative partnerships.

Available to view throughout centre trading hours from 11 June to 12 July.
