The Chadstone Spring Summer 25 Bag Edit. From micro minis to oversized totes, we round up the must-have handbags for the new season.
The most stylish women know that a handbag can make or break an outfit. All the elements need to be correct: the silhouette, the material, the colour. All of which is to say that new-season handbag investments are a big deal. You want to find a piece that feels on-trend, but is classic enough that you’ll wear it again for seasons and years to come. For Spring Summer 25, it’s all about extremes: big, oversized styles from brands like Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, and micro mini bags from the likes of Miu Miu and Coach. Here, we round-up the three biggest handbag trends of the new season and curate our edit of the best pieces from Chadstone retailers to tap into each.
This season, more is more when it comes to handbags. Oversized silhouettes appeared on the runway at Bottega Veneta, Fendi and Balenciaga. We love Saint Laurent’s ‘Jamie’ bag, an XXL shape in quilted leather featuring the brand’s signature motif and a stylish gold chain. Bottega Veneta’s ‘Campana’ shape is a shoulder-style using the brand’s signature intrecciato weave, while at Incu, the emerging handbag designer Margesherwood’s slouchy tan suede style will fit effortlessly into your existing wardrobe. Our advice? This style works best with daywear: a great pair of jeans with a white button-down, a simple slip dress with sneakers, or an easy slouchy suit.
MARGESHERWOOD BAG | $860
'JAMIE' BAG | $6680
'CAMPANA' BAG | $9490
BRITTANY TOTE | $179
This season, mid-size handbags all have one thing in common: craft. You can thank outgoing Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson for the fashion industry’s obsession with all things wicker, straw, and raffia. His ‘Ola’ bag for Loewe is a perfect example, an architectural silhouette finished in soft leather and raffia weave with a statement strap of interlocking resin charms – it’s our call for the handbag style of the season. Elsewhere, Lonchamp are on board with their stylish bucket bag, finished with moss-green leather accents and selection of eccentric charms. At Oroton, we love the top handle style of the ‘Clara’ bag in wicker (Jane Birkin eat your heart out), while Seafolly's woven tote doubles as the perfect beach-bag.
Thanks to fashion’s current obsession with all things Noughties, we’re in the midst of a fullblown mini-handbag renaissance. At Coach, Stuart Vevers has reworked the classic ‘Tabby’ shape into a micro rectangular shoulder bag, replete with blingy crystal embellishment. Louis Vuitton’s ‘Pochetta Eva’ bag will fit your favourite lipstick, your house keys, and little else (but who needs anything else when you’re dressed this well?). Acne Studios’ take is characteristically off-beat, a slouchy style available in a kaleidoscope of sorbet hues, while Miu Miu and Charles and Keith (available at David Jones) offer sensible shoulder bags in textural denim and croc-effect.
TABBY SHOULDER BAG | $795
POCHETTA EVA BAG | $2260
CAMERO SHOULDER BAG | $2700
BEAU DENIM BAG | $4750
