Cityfields, the unique, European-inspired, all-day food and drink destination within Chadstone’s new and highly anticipated leisure and dining precinct, The Social Quarter, has officially opened its doors. Behind the new dining offer is the team behind South Melbourne’s restaurant and events space Half Acre.

Seeking out unexpected locations is part of the ethos behind the team at Half Acre, who always envisioned their second venture being a lively, vibrant place for people to visit at any time of day or night. Cityfields is just that, with a central public bar, sky-high ceilings and indoor and outdoor seating options to accommodate any occasion - reminiscent of a venue one might experience in New York, London or Paris.

"Cityfields is a concept that we've had in mind for some time now, and it was important for us to find the right space to give the idea the home it deserved. When Chadstone presented us with their plans for The Social Quarter, the location for Cityfields in particular is what stood out to us. With 12-metre high ceilings, views of Melbourne's city skyline, a rooftop garden and a grand staircase, we instantly felt that this was the right place to bring Cityfields to life." says Adam Wright-Smith, co-owner of Cityfields.

The team has worked alongside designers Pasquale Cook and Studio Manifold to bring to life the two-story dining destination, which is home to several separate spaces. On the ground floor is the Public Bar, Restaurant, and North and South Gardens which offer alfresco dining. There’s also The Long Room – a private space which seats 32 and is equipped with audio equipment and a TV screen for corporate meetings. On the top floor, guests will find The Terrace Dining Room, Bar and Rooftop Garden, which offers views of Melbourne’s stunning city skyline, along with a private dining room for 80 seated or 100 standing.

When guests arrive at Cityfields, they will feel instantly transported. A grand entrance featuring large timber double- doors and striped awnings reminiscent of a Parisian brasserie leads the way, and once inside, the European theme continues with authentic and warm interiors, and locally sourced materials throughout. From the vintage Murano chandeliers cascading up the grand staircase to terrazzo tabletops and handcrafted ceramics, each room has a unique personality with a nod to old-time elegance, and visitors are invited to relax and settle in.

Open 12pm until late, diners in the restaurant can look forward to a menu that offers up the same honest approach to quality ingredients and timeless dishes as Half Acre, but with a European flare. Transitioning seamlessly from day through to night, the menu is inspired by European bistros around the world and celebrates local produce. For mains, there is a range of options to suit guests in the mood for something light through to those who prefer something heartier. Dessert at Cityfields is one of the eatery’s notable experiences, with a roving cart dedicated to the course, filled with daily cakes and tart specials to choose from and plated tableside for the ultimate decadent end to a meal. There’s also à la carte options and soft serve ice made onsite with fior di latte. Everyone in the family is catered for at Cityfields, with a dedicated menu featuring dishes sure to please even the fussiest eaters.

The Public Bar on the ground floor serves up the same menu you will find in the restaurant in relaxed surrounds, centred by a large marble bar. It’s the ideal spot to perch for a drink or meal after a shopping trip, or to meet a friend and watch your favourite sporting event on one of the screens.

Onto drinks, an impressive wine list, signature cocktails (and mocktails), aperitifs and digestifs, and a mix of local and imported beers allow for every kind of occasion – from a casual visit to a longer stay to watch the sunset over Melbourne’s incredible city skyline.

On the top level, The Terrace Dining Room accomodates 80 seated, while The Terrace Bar and The Terrace Garden will offer views across the South-Eastern suburbs to the city. Reminiscent of a Parisian rooftop; elevated and sophisticated yet casual, here guests will find an intimate and inviting location to enjoy lunch or dinner away from the hustle and bustle of Chadstone. The whole menu will also be available here and the entire top level will be available to rent out for private parties, birthday celebrations or corporate events.

Whether it’s locals in the area wanting a great brunch or decadent dinner, couples looking for a date night spot, a birthday celebration or simply a glass of bubbles and oysters to round out a day of shopping, Cityfields is a place where guests can choose their own adventure.
