Ceramic Painting Masterclass

An experienced artist leads this masterclass on ceramic painting. Learn to paint a decorative ceramic wall plate using acrylic paints, taking inspiration from Picasso’s painted ceramics. Practice your sketch then paint your Australian-made Robert Gordon ceramic and take it home to display. Please note these plates are suitable for decorative purposes only, they should not be used for serving food.

Collage Masterclass

Artist Alice Oehr leads this masterclass on cubist collage. Learn to create a still life scene from coloured paper, apply a treatment such as patterns or shading, then cut and arrange shapes. When it comes to combining colours, playing with pattern and exploring shapes, there are no rules.

Still Life Digital Drawing Masterclass

Artist Alice Oehr teaches the art of drawing on an iPad Pro using the Apple pencil and Procreate software. Learn to draw a still life in the style of Picasso’s cubist works, there will be a still-life installation in the studio to inspire the class.

Digital artwork by definition simulates existing art mediums like charcoal, oil paint and pencils; using pixels to bring it to life on screen. It also allows us to widely experiment; trying many effects out without any mess, and with the convenient ability to press “undo”.

THE ARTISTS

ALICE OEHR

Alice Oehr is a graphic artist from Melbourne. Her distinct, colourful style incorporates a love of food, pattern, collage and drawing. She draws both for work and for fun, which has led her to teaching, speaking and writing on the subject. Since 2017, she has run regular Still Life Drawing sessions for Apple iPad Pro at Lamington Drive gallery. Like most professional doodlers, Alice loves to record the world as she moves through it, and uses her work to showcase her observations and interpretations of the details she encounters. Her commercial work is sought-after by local and international clients alike, and has appeared in numerous books as well as on textiles, homewares and large-scale installations. She has author-illustrated three of her own books; The Art of Cake (Thames & Hudson 2020), Still Life Drawing (Hardie Grant, 2021) and ‘Pretend You’re in Paris’ (Harper Collins, 2022). Alice has exhibited extensively in various group exhibitions, and has had two solo exhibitions; ‘Freshly Wrapped’ in 2018 and ‘CAKE’ in 2021.

Esther Olsson

Esther Olsson is an artist from Melbourne.

“My stylistic method incorporates a complementary integration of the grid system and reference to coded stories that use image repetition to tell stories about my own experiences and day-to-day life. The recurring figures I paint represent protection, empowerment, ambition, envy, and emotions. My intention is to generate joyous and light-hearted imagery that reflects my philosophy to approach life with a sense of humor and joviality.”
