Ben Sherman’s Autumn Winter 2021 reflects on the music of new wave post-punk icons The Jam.
The band served their defiant social commentary on political powers through the 1970s and early 80s. Their first number one UK single “Going Underground” covered weighty issues set to the tune of a punchy guitar and ironic lyrics. Forty years on, the song has renewed relevance and could easily be sung about current issues on racial injustice and environmentalism.
The statement ‘Going Underground’ captured the mood of non-conformity without asking for attention. Ben Sherman takes on this balance of opposites and replays them into pieces with a twist. There are knitted cardigans with a bold stripe made for layering under a signature polo. Mix up the texture with a tartan overshirts in a rich palette of forest green, red and navy.
