In a career spanning almost three decades Harding produced a substantial body of work across a wide range of disciplines. Although he began his career in the mediums of painting, drawing and printmaking, his practice moved towards large-scale public artworks, sculptural exhibition pieces, craft objects and furniture design. Although most well-known for his stainless-steel forms, he also produced works in granite and wood.

During his career, Harding participated in numerous sculptural awards and was a finalist in many: the prestigious McClelland National Sculpture Survey and Award (2007, 2010, Peoples Choice Award 2010); the National Sculpture Prize (NGV 2003); the Helen Lempriere National Sculpture Award (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, Wyndham City Council Acquisitive Award and Popular Choice Award 2004) and Sculpture by the Sea (1999, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011 recipient: Helen Lempriere Scholarship 2010).

During the latter part of his career, Harding undertook a number of large-scale public projects including the Four Seasons Tower in Guangzhou, China (“Neo” 2011), City of Melbourne, (“Mercury Rising” 2009); the front entrance to MONA (sculptural entry façade 2011); ACT Veterans Park Memorial Sculpture (2012), and many others.

Harding also lectured at the ANU and the University of Tasmania, in addition to undertaking a number of cross-cultural facilitations in Australia and abroad.

Harding’s work is part of several important public and corporate collections nationally and internationally, including National Gallery of Australia; Artbank; Australian National University, ACT; The Boston Museum of Fine Art, USA; The Royal Collection, England; Inami Sculpture Park, Japan; Vanuatu Parliament, Vanuatu; Wing Tai Holdings, Singapore and private collections in Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States.
